------TCOP Playlist -------Don't Cry, Johnny: A Playlist For Speaker Boehner

Posted: Thu, 6 Jan 2011 23:27:13 PST

Happy Friday, everyone...and welcome to a new weekly feature on the site I'm very excited about...In addition to all things pop culture, I've always been a big music fan...in fact one of my earliest memories goes back to around 1965 when I heard a rather thrilling piece of music emerging from my big brother's suitcase-esque fold out record player...and the name of the song was Can't Buy Me Love by some combo from England....I think they had a couple of hits.

As far back as it was technically possible, I've always loved making compilations...or as we called 'em back in the day, mix tapes which begat CD-R's which led us to the MP3 playlist.

So, with that in mind, every Friday I'll be posting a playlist of the week relevant to something buzz or newsworthy...and thanks to good timing via the latter, I think I have a real winner for you guys for a debut set.

Anyone with even a casual interest in politics knows there was a change of the old gavel at the House in Washington this week...

Here's what gets me, though. You would think that outgoing Speaker Of The House Nancy Pelosi's tear ducts would have been a-flooded a few years back when she got the hammer...but nope, a guy with the last name of Boehner goes on a crying jag (and how ironic is it that a guy with such a name cries? Will somebody explain that to me?)

Anyway to instigate this new weekly feature, I wanted to offer a “House”-warming gift to new Speaker John...and even though I was raised to be a Democrat, that's not stopping me from reaching across the party lines with a gift of a do-it-yourself playlist so fitting to his personality: The greatest crying songs of all time (handkerchiefs sold separately).
