Fashions great...and not so great.
Well, I'm no fashionista,, but I know a fine dressed woman when I see one...so without further delay here's my list of the most beautiful ladies on Sunday night's 2011 Golden Globes Red Carpet:
Best:
-Anne Hathaway: My fave dress of the night by a landslide...beautiful design, unusual color, fit her frame perfectly...and that low back most likely had every guy watching doing a cartoon tongue rolling visual effect. Perfect hair, make-up, smile...the complete package. Hall of Fashion Fame stuff, I say.
-Elizabeth Moss-One of the most underrated dresses of the night to me; beautiful green shoulder less gown that so complimented the Mad Men star's shape. Bonus points for a terrific hairdo; I've never seen Elizabeth look more beautiful..
-Claire Danes: The former teen age dreamboat most likely resurrected many a crush via her hot pink, neck hugging/shoulder less gown; hair perfectly pinned up; the kind of look that defines the term movie star
-Jane Fonda-Her white shoulder less gown with pretty pattern fitted this veteran actress perfectly and gave some of the young 'un's a run for their money.
-Christina Aguilera: A real winner in an perfect hourglass black gown filled with lacy patterns that made the singer-songwriter look beyond amazing.
-Catherine Zeta Jones-Another lady in green and a welcome returnee after far too long an absence, Beautiful shoulder less gown with nice ruffles and train. If there's any one that sends off a vibe of old school Hollywood, it's classy Miss Catherine.
-Sofia Vergaria-Red silk was just what the fashion doctor ordered for this lovable Latin spitfire; gorgeous shoulder less gown that perfectly accentuated her shapely figure. It's all Sofia.
-Katey Sagal-An unusual but yet eye catching orange gown markedly different that fit her warm personality so well. A classy look covering up her whole body quite effectively....and a refreshing, age appropriate change that should set an example to her age group trying to keep up with the new kids.
-Nicole Kidman-An untypical color really helped every part of her glow from her smile to her trademark red hair...I haven't seen Nicole look this serene or beautiful in a long, long time...She must be in a very good place right now
-January Jones: I'm a fan of stars who push the envelope on the red carpet in a good way...and January Jones knows just what I'm talking about. A student from the “if you got it, flaunt it” school, her red peek-a-boo number fit her to a T with a letter V design accentuated her shapely bosoms perfectly. Props for the old school Hollywood hair, too.
Honorable Mentions:
Vanessa Williams
Mandy Moore
Lea Michelle
Milla Jovovich
Jayma Mays
Olivia Wilde
Angelina Jolie
Sarah Hyland
Hailee Steinfeld
Lara Spencer
Shaun Robinson
Nancy O'Dell
Mary Hart (gonna miss you, Mary)
...and since I don't wanna use the label worst, here's the not-so-greatly dressed from last eve.
-Jennifer Love Hewitt: Love is a cutie, but it's not the word I'd use to describe her oversized gown that looked like a bird bath from certain angles. Hair piled too high as well.
-Helena Bonham Carter-Remember those commercials where NBA players tried their hand at painting by dipping their basketballs on a palette and then tossing the basketball onto a canvas? This dress has that same kind of effect...and if I go any further on this fashion disaster de'jour, I'm gonna have to lay down.
Natalie Portman-Opinions sharply divided over this dress and all I can say it would have been perfect had it not been for that distraction of a rose. Take that away, and she's this generation's Audrey Hepburn. Lovely material, elegant, matched her skin tone perfectly...but damn, that rose.
Scarlett Johansen-Didn't like the color of this dress, the design, the fit...and it makes a young girl look at least a decade older than she actually is...This might have worked for someone like Helen Mirren, but all wrong for Johansen...and that hair was SO Elsa Lanchester in The Bride Of Frankenstein.
Michelle Williams-I hate putting Michelle in this category because she's been thru a couple of rough years...but this flowery, almost hippy dippy era look was all wrong for a red carpet. This is the kind of dress more appropriate for a critics award event or the Spirit Awards...but not here
-Julianne Moore-I adore Julianne, but this hot pink number just didn't work for me. The one sleeve design came off as awkward, and the the area around her chest had too many creases.
Heidi Klum-Will someone please explain to me why the host of a fashion program consistently wears the most garish dresses at many an event? This indescribable mess looks like the tacky gift wrapping paper you buy at the dollar store on Christmas Eve just before the doors close.
Leighon Meester-One of the most recognizable faces of young Hollywood, and she wears an old maid style dress suitable for a funeral. Awful pattern, awkward long sleeves. But her hair looked great.
Emma Stone-Not a terrible dress, but I don't think the color matches her skin tone very well, almost coming off as garish. A black ensemble would've better played off her dye job very effectively, but that's just me.
Tilda Swinton:-Huge fan of this lady's talent. Not a fan of her fashion choices...this dress looked like a bad investment from a five minute visit to the local thrift store...and if you think I'm being harsh, Google images from her latest film () and see how striking Swinton looks when styled by professionals.
Dishonorable Mention: Sandra Bullock-I feel awful for saying this after her hell year, but her bang-y hairdo made her look like Joey Ramone's mother. Dress wise, she was okay, but I want my Sandy with exquisitely styled hair back so we can have those beautiful eyes beguiling us once more.
