Two For Tuesday Edition!
Hiya, kids....Just barely getting this feature done before the end of the day...well, as far as the PST zones, go (I can cheat that way and say, I got it done on Tuesday!)...
Before going on, I got back in touch with a dear friend from my high school days tonight, and it's moments like those an e-mail, Facebook message or chat text can't replace...Good old fashioned phone conversation, which I high recommend you guys do every once in a while. Phones are fun, even though you gotta hold 'em...Anyway, good excuse for being tardy, I think.
(Ed Sullivan Voice): And now!!!!!!! Our Titterers!
Hey, you know Ed would have accidentally said it that way...that's why he was Ed Sullivan...
Wendy Liebman

-One of my all time fave stand-up comedians, she's amongst a merry band of laugh makers I would live for (and still do) on Letterman, Ferguson and the like (names like Carol Liefer, Tom Dreesen, Jake Johansen, Steven Wright, and Richard Belzer come to mind). But Wendy's still near the top for me with her unique, trademark blend of delivering straight lines of normal conversation, hesitating for a half second, then delivering the punch line you never hear coming.
A classic example from her secretarial days:
“I would call in sick a lot. I would say I had female problems. My boss didn't know it was her”.
...and here's another trademark gem:
“My mother is a ventriloquist.....but not professionally”.
Long Island reared, Wendy majored in psychology at Boston University, but opted to take a post college course in stand-up comedy..and we are the better for it in terms of gut busting laughter she's given.
Honing her craft in Beantown throughout most of the mid-to-late 1980's at well known comedy venues including Catch A Rising Star, Liebman's big break came in the finals of the Johnnie Walker Red Comedy Competition. Although she didn't win, Wendy got quite a consolation prize: A stint one week later on The Tonight Show, then being hosted by the greatest friend a stand-up comic ever had....the legendary Johnny Carson.
Since then, she's graced virtually every stand-up friendly television show from The Rosie O'Donnell Show to The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson...and in 1997, she won the prestigious American Comedy Award for Best Female Stand Up Comic.
Nowadays, Wendy's witticisms aren't limited to the footlights, utilizing Twitter just as effectively, evidenced from the moment you read her mini-bio: “Immature for my age...according to my pediatrician...”
My favorite amongst her most recent dispatches:
“My ex brother-in-law was a lawyer so he's my ex brother-in-law in law”.
Now, for something completely different (yeah, I know, but if you steal from the best, steal from Monty Python), but in keeping with the same funny women groove, I give you one...
Chelsea Joy Handler.

Living up to her middle name by giving people sheer amounts of it, night by night, dissecting/exposing the bizarre world of celebrity and pop culture for what it really is, only David Letterman comes closer to being so real on the small screen to me. Her bitingly funny mini-monologues pack the punch of a half dozen Don Rickles, and I live for those moments when she only gives a blank stare with a sigh on top in response to yet another story about an oft mentioned name which will go nameless (okay, Charlie Sheen), the kind of a stare that speaks to millions of us feeling the same aggravation.
Hailing from Livingston, New Jersey, Handler had no intentions on a stand-up career, opting to move West to make it in the acting biz, but a DUI marked a pivotal turn in her artistic endeavors. After her classmates in traffic school found her “oopsi” tale of inebriation funny, she found her true calling.
As the 2000's progressed, Handler emerged as a breakout star on the comedy venue circuit, while balancing occasional supporting roles on the likes of The Practice, My Wife and Kids and The Bernie Mac Show. Despite a hectic schedule, Chelsea also found time to play contributor to various pop culture themed specials on the E! Channel and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and became a best selling author beginning with My Horizontal Life: A Collection Of One Night Stands, which with the exception of comedian Bob Zmuda's memoir on life with Andy Kaufman, is the funniest book I've ever read.
In 2007, Handler landed Chelsea Lately, a nightly combination pop culture equivalent of Politically Incorrect and typical talk show on E!, mostly with C list celebrities for starters, but with the show's enormous success, the likes of Jennifer Aniston and other A list performers are starting to become more prominent. 2011 finds Chelsea spreading her wings on a forthcoming Larry Sanders-esque take on her backstage life (After Lately) and playing executive producer on a pilot for a potential forthcoming companion pop culture show with regular Lately panelists Ross Matthews and Heather McDonald.
All this and she still finds time to put out little nuggets (there's a plug for you, Chules) of goodies on Twitter...Wish there were more gut busting one liners, but then we wouldn't have those sarcasm lased start-offs weeknights at 11 pm EST, would we? But, there's never an end of wacky, sometimes wonderfully disturbing photos and advance info on concert plans/tickets.
When does this woman find time to have a boyfriend?! More importantly, is she accepting applications?
(Pepe Le Pew Voice): Usted es el tipo de mujer de mi mamá me advirtió acerca de la Señorita Chelsea ... me llamaste?
Thanks in advance for the translation help, Chuy (wink).....
