Back from The Storm...

Storms Never Last...But People Do...

In my 49 years of life, never have I experienced the type of aftermath that followed the worst day for tornadic activity in the history of the world. Following five days without power, it was only at the start of the week that I had a chance to see visuals of the damage. To think that nothing would surpass the horrific storms of April 1974 and November 1989...well, it was beyond my comprehension at first...but in videos and pictures on and off the web, the evidence has hit many like myself who lived thru those storms very, very hard.

Two of my media friends that I consider members of my second family lost everything they had; one actually risking his life until literally the last second before taking refuge in his storm shelter in order to do a live phone report with the local ABC affiliate..and I heard that as it happened, folks....and then minutes later, my power went out. Talk about living in fear for days...

But by the grace of God, he survived....but multiply that story by the thousands along with the visuals, the stories of property being lost, and sadly, stories of those who lost more than that.

So while heavy of heart, my fellow citizens of Dixie are tougher than leather and we will bounce back sooner rather than later...and I would like to thank the many volunteers that have come in from all parts of the country to help us begin that process; it is beyond inspiring.

Owing to computer problems before the storms and a tech guru who's out helping with media coverage of post-tornadic activity, my blog and podcast won't be back up to speed until the weekend at the latest..but to be honest, that's superflous to me at the moment...and I'd much rather you guys take a moment to donate to the United Way telethon beginning at the time of this post.
